FAQ: FAQ

Do you take medical insurance?

Not for the membership fee. However, the membership fee is covered by a health savings account if you have one. The membership is paid directly to Nelson Direct Primary Care. You can use your insurance for everything else including any test that is ordered and referrals. The lab or imaging company and referral doctor will directly bill your insurance.

When is your office opening?

The office opened on January 31, 2022.

Do you prescribe controlled substances?

We are in the midst of an opiate crisis. What was once thought to be very safe and helpful for pain management can certainly be harmful when used regularly at high doses. At Nelson Direct Primary Care, except in rare and individualized circumstances, opiates (morphine, Dilaudid, oxycodone, and similar medications) will not be prescribed for daily long-term use. At the same time, substantial effort will be made to treat chronic pain in other ways that are thought to be safer. Patients on chronic opiates can have those medications prescribed by a pain specialist. In similar fashion, controlled substances (Adderall and the like) for ADHD/ADD will need to be prescribed by a psychiatrist or other physician. Benzodiazepines (alprazolam (Xanax), lorazepam (Ativan), diazepam (Valium)) can be prescribed but, when appropriate, significant effort will be made to wean the doses of those medications down or to wean patients off of the medication with plans to treat anxiety and insomnia in other ways.
